Doctorious Defined
Welcome to Doctorious: My Adventures in Education! This blog reveals the in-the-classroom, on-the-road, and at-home experiences of adjunct instructor Matthew A. Gilbert, MBA. Topics tackled include business, education, technology and a personal focus on Autism.
What does “Doctorious” mean? Representing a state of mind more than a name or title, the phrase “Doctorious” equals the sum of this equation: doctorate + victorious + generous + notorious:
- Doctorate: I have a lifelong love of learning and desire to conduct scholarly research. When this blog was first created I had just completed two semesters of an EdD program and was enrolled in a PhD program from which I have since withdrawn. However, it is my intent to return to my doctoral studies to research the impact of social media on the creation and distribution of information.
- Victorious: I clearly envision earning my doctorate and becoming a tenured college professor and published author writing about the business, education and technology. I am also dedicated to succeeding in a way that aligns with and exemplifies my personal and professional beliefs as embodied in my teaching philosophy.
- Generous: I am committed to creating and contributing knowledge for the greater good. I invite others to leverage my research just as I work with and build upon the intellectual discoveries of others. This is part of why my research interests include social media and knowledge management: we can learn more with each other than we do from each other.
- Notorious: As a child of the 1980s, I can’t ignore the fact that the Duran Duran song “Notorious” pops into my mind every time I see or say “Doctorious!” Perhaps it did for you as well? Also, having been born in Boston and being naturally contrarian, I have a desire to be “intellectually revolutionary” in my endeavors.
I welcome a chance to connect with other current or future doctoral students and those who have achieved this impressive level of distinction. If you have something to say or are interested in connecting please leave a comment below, send an e-mail to doctorious [at] generative [dot] com or send a tweet to @doctorious on Twitter.
