What is social media? I define it as follows:

“Social media includes information generated with and shared by individuals using various web-based tools including blogs, message boards, video sharing sites, wikis, chat, IM and similar technology.”

Social media is used for knowledge sharing, networking, training and development. Social media also enables many individuals to complete parts of a larger task (notably, my interest in social media was first piqued when Steve Fossett went missing and there was an attempt to find him using Amazon’s Mechanical Turk – even though that effort was not successful).

Social media can be both a communication tool and a marketing channel. I am interested in social media in both of its forms and am intrigued that technology can so intensely enhance our human experience.

I created this page as a centralized location at which I could list all of the websites and content that falls under the social media umbrella. My intent is to list each alphabetically below and also provide a link to a more detailed profile of each service.  You might also want to visit the Social Media Website Directory.
